It is important that you enter the required information correctly as it appears on your power bill. It is important you know what meter type is installed at the premise along with how many kWh are consumed over a 30 day period.

This information is found on on your electricity bill and can be difficult to understand. Often retailers have different layouts for there electricity and gas bills.

Our comparator website will take into consideration the EC levy and which is a charge from the Electricity Commission, we also take into consideration the GST component when making a comparison.

Once you have gone through the comparator process and feel comfortable with switching your supply it is important you provide us with your ICP number on the signup form. The number is a unique number for which we can identify which site is connected to your meter. This number is called your installation control point number.

Below is an example of a power bill and the various elements you are required to understand

Your Contact Energy bill contains all the relevant information regarding your electricity supply and account.

At the top you will see transactions since previous account. This will state your previous balance and any payments made since the last invoice. It will also show the previous prompt payment discount given as a credit.

Below this information you will see your current charges and the total amount owing including GST. It will state Electricity Charges and in brackets whether it was based on an actual or estimate read.

If you are requesting to switch retailers, you will be required to supply your ICP number. This is a unique identifier of your properties meter and enables the new supplier to locate all the necessary details regarding your electricity supply. If you are currently with Contact Energy, this information can be found on the back of the invoice or on the second page if you receive your bills online.

You will see the address where the electricity is supplied to, and then just underneath appears the ICP number. This is a 15 digit number which typically stats with 0 and contains letters towards the end.

On the back of your bill or on the second page if you receive your Contact Energy bill online, you will find your pricing plan. This information is required in order to give you an accurate comparison. The pricing plan is directly related to the type of meter you have installed at your property.

In the “Electricity Charges” section of this page, underneath the table containing your previous and present meter reads you will see one of the following descriptions:

The box containing your meter reads is where you will find your units used in the fourth column of the Electricity Charges box. Use the exact units stated in the comparison in order to receive accurate results.

Your Genesis Energy bill contains all the relevant information regarding your electricity supply and account.

The first page will clearly state if your monthly charge is based on an Actual or Estimate read. In order to receive the most accurate comparison, use a bill based on an actual meter reading to compare retailers.

On the back of your bill or on the second page if you receive your Genesis bill by email, you will find your pricing plan. This information is required in order to give you an accurate comparison. The pricing plan is directly related to the type of meter you have installed at your property. You will find this information in the “Current Electricity Usage” table on the second page.

On the left hand side you will see one of the following descriptions:

You will need to enter you electricity consumption in order to receive an accurate comparison. This can be found again on the second page in the fifth column of the current electricity charges table, titled “Units Used”

If you are a Genesis customer who is requesting to switch retailers using the Switchme site, you will be required to supply your ICP number in the application. This is your meters unique identifier number and can be found on the second page of your Genesis Energy bill in the top right hand corner. This number enables your new supplier to request the correct meter, and locate all the necessary details regarding your electricity supply.

Your Just Energy bill contains all relevant information regarding your electricity consumption and charges.

On the first page you will find your consumer number and your current account balance and due date.

In order to run a comparison, you will need to enter you pricing plan into the comparison calculator. The pricing plan is directly related to the type of meter/s you have installed at your property. This information is required to give an accurate comparison. This information can be located at point 15 on the Example Bill.

On the second page you will see a section titled "Electricity" and a box titled "Our Charges"

In this box on the left hand side you will see a description containing one of the following:

You will also need to enter your electricity consumption in order to obtain an accurate comparison. This can be found in the same table as the above meter description in the second column listed "Qty". This is located at point 15 on the Example Bill.

If you are a Just Energy customer who wishes to switch to another provider, you will be required to supply your ICP number. This is a unique identifier for your property's meter and allows the retailer to locate the necessary meter information regarding your electricity supply an is used to ensure you are placed on the correct plan.

The ICP number can be found on the second page of your Just Energy bill in the section listed "Electricity". It can be found on the left hand side in between the invoice number and meter number just above the charges table. This can be located at point 11 on the Example Bill.

Your Mercury Energy bill contains all the relevant information regarding your electricity supply and account.

On the back of your bill or on the second page if you receive your Mercury Energy bill online, you will find your pricing plan. This information is required in order to give you an accurate comparison. The pricing plan is directly related to the type of meter you have installed at your property.

On the back of your invoice you will see “Current Account Details”.

In the box on the left titled “Charge Type” you will see one of the following descriptions.

In the second column of this table you will see “Units” The number will appear as kWh. This is the number of units used.

On the first page you will find your customer and invoice numbers, the address that the electricity is supplied to, the balance owing and the due date.

If you are requesting to switch retailers, you will be required to supply your ICP number. This is a unique identifier of your properties meter and enables the new supplier to locate all the necessary details regarding your electricity supply.

If you are currently with Meridian Energy, this number can be found on the first page in between the invoice number and due date on the top left hand side of the page. It is a 15 digit number which typically starts with 0 and will contain a couple of letters towards the end.

On the back of your bill or on the second page if you receive your Meridian bill by email, you will find your pricing plan. This information is required in order to give you an accurate comparison. The pricing plan is directly related to the type of meter you have installed at your property.

You will see a box titled Current Charges.

The first column on the left, titled Description is where you will see your pricing plan. It will be listed as Meridian Plus- then one of the following:
